Don Johnson: Dakota's '50 Shades' Role Will Be 'A Blip' In Her Career

What Don Johnson Really Thinks About His Daughter Playing '50 Shades' Lead

Don Johnson doesn't have a lot to say about Dakota Johnson's lead role in the erotically-charged "Fifty Shades Of Grey" franchise. In fact, as Johnson told HuffPost Live in a recent interview, he hasn't even read the controversial S&M romance novel his daughter's film is based on.

"I don't know anything about it," he told host Ricky Camilleri, of the popular book. "... [And] this isn't something I would go out and buy and read anyways. This isn't on my bucket list. I read 'The Story Of O' in the sixties so I think I'm up to speed."

Despite not knowing exactly what the role of Anastasia Steele entails (hint: it's potentially sexual enough to merit an NC-17 rating), the elder Johnson is confident that it won't define the rest of his daughter's career.

"I can tell you this: Dakota is a gifted, gifted actress," he said. "And this will be a blip in a long line of parts where she kills it. She is the authentic article and I am exceedingly proud of her."

"Fifty Shades Of Grey" comes out Valentines day of 2015, but you can catch Don Johnson's new film, "Cold In July," in theaters May 23.
