Don Cheadle Launches Campaign For Miles Davis Biopic

This summer Don Cheadle will make his feature directorial debut and star in a film that chronicles the life and music of Miles Davis entitled, “Miles Ahead.”

In an effort to help fund the project, the Golden Globe Award-winning actor has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, which closes on July 10, with the target goal of $325,000.

“Miles Davis was not the typical jazz musician, in fact that’s a word that he really didn’t care for,” Cheadle admitted in the campaign’s promotion clip. “He thought the word jazz was too limiting to really express the breadth and scope of what he did. He preferred that his work be referred to as ‘social music,’ the music of its time.”

“And keeping within that spirit I think that it’s only befitting that the making of this movie be a social experience. So we’re turning to the social mediums of our time so that we can bring this man whose musical shoulders we metaphorically sit on, forward to our time.”

According to the campaign’s project page, select donations will come with various perks, including exclusive on set access, and Miles Davis memorabilia.

In addition, the “House of Lies” star has also tapped Herbie Hancock, Robert Glasper, and Nas to contribute to the film’s soundtrack.
