Man Allegedly Steals Car With Two Children Inside

Honolulu police are searching for a man who reportedly stole a car that had two young children sitting inside.

According to KHON, a mother left her two kids sitting inside of her 2014 Honda CR-V with the engine running while she went into her apartment in Pearl City, Hawaii.

Less than a minute later, police say the suspect entered the SUV and drove away with the children, a four-year-old boy and three-month-old girl.

"[The mother] was crying, falling down on her knees, everything," Corey Dennison, a witness, told KHON. "I would be crying too, if my kids were gone. I think she just got home and I guess she walked to her unit and she came back and her car was gone."

Within ten minutes of the woman reporting her kids missing and vehicle stolen, police located the SUV over a half-mile away, already abandoned by the alleged thief. The kids were inside and unharmed, and were quickly reunited with their mom.

Surveillance video obtained by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser shows the suspect, who remains at large, abandoning the SUV while carrying a large bag:

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches and about 150 pounds. He was wearing blue shorts with a white shirt and shoes, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

"You never know who's watching, who's around," Collette Chang-Hasegawa, a resident who lives near where the car was located, told KHON2. "Good thing nothing happened to those kids."
