Puppies Left On Road After Their Mother Dog Was Shot Need New Loving Homes

A horrifying case of animal cruelty has opened up big hearts from Texas to Canada.

On May 28, 10 newborn puppies were left in a cage by the side of the road in Springtown, Texas, still suckling their dead mother, who had been shot, the Dallas Morning News reported. The dogs' former owner, Tammy Douglas, allegedly confessed to killing the mother dog after a tipster led police to her.

But the pooches' brutal beginning took a turn for the better. Jennifer Aikman, the owner of Angels and Outlaws Second Chance Bully Ranch dog rescue, took in the pups. According to the CNN/WFAA video above, she found two nursing mother dogs willing to feed the litter. Now these cuties, said to be a shepherd/heeler mix, are up for adoption and Aikman is accepting applications via email until June 13, according to the rescue's Facebook page. The dogs will be available when they reach 12 weeks.

Angels and Outlaws posted on June 9 that a second puppy died. But the rest are "thriving" and are under a vet's care, WFAA reported.

The rescue has received dozens of adoption inquiries, including from Canada, the outlet added.

"We just want so bad for all of them to live and be happy babies for the rest of their lives," Angels and Outlaws wrote on Facebook.

We second that!
