“After my husband died suddenly of a massive heart attack at the age of 57, I was devastated and felt very alone,” Kathy McHug told me. Over the next few months Kathy—then 56—kept active by taking her younger daughter to look at colleges, helping both her daughters deal with their shock and deep grief while trying to deal with her own as best as she could and also maintain her recruitment business. Nine months after John’s death, she ran into Dawn Nargi and Ellen Kamp at a New Year’s Day party in New York City where they told her about The W Connection, the new group they were forming to help widows.
