Charles Krauthammer Claims Obama Could Get Impeached Over Immigration

Columnist Charles Krauthammer claimed on Tuesday that President Obama could get impeached if he tries to legalize undocumented immigrants through an executive order.

"If he were to do something like legalize five [million] — let’s say half, which is what’s been talked about — huge numbers of illegal immigrants, to do it by executive order — which would be clearly lawless, and it would be the biggest overreach of a president in memory — it would be an impeachable offense," he told Fox News' Bret Baier on Tuesday.

Obama is getting ready to take unilateral action to address the country's immigration crisis, and
one of those executive actions could potentially grant work permits to roughly 5 million undocumented immigrants.

Krauthammer added Tuesday that he is actually "100% against" impeaching Obama, and believes that trying to do so would be "political suicide" for Republicans. His comments came during a discussion about reports that House Republicans could try to impeach Obama.

Some conservatives — including Sarah Palin earlier this month — have argued in favor of impeaching the president. Meanwhile, Democrats have cited Republicans' calls for impeachment in fundraising emails. Echoing House Speaker John Boehner, Krauthammer dismissed the reports as "concoctions" made up by Democrats to scare voters and raise money.
