NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito: It's Our Responsibility To Aid Undocumented Immigrants

NYC Council Speaker 'Disappointed' In Congress On Immigration

New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito thinks Congress has been "extremely irresponsible" towards undocumented immigrants, she said in a HuffPost Live interview Wednesday.

Congress has failed to "assist in processing and housing these children and their families," she told host Marc Lamont Hill, as well as to provide the president with "the necessary resources he's been calling for, and that's creating an incredible load also on cities and states that already have economic burdens."

Mark-Viverito said that New York City would uphold its "responsibility" to help in "whatever way" it can, and urged politicians across America to do the same.

"This is the responsibility of every single elected official," she said. "The fact that Republicans are being extremely recalcitrant ... is a challenge."
