Dog Thrown From Moving Car On New Jersey's Garden State Parkway

Dog Survives Being Thrown From Moving Car

A dog was apparently thrown from a moving vehicle on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey on Saturday and struck by another car -- yet somehow managed to survive the ordeal, according to multiple reports.

The mixed terrier, a female, is in stable condition at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. Vets treated the dog for internal bleeding and other injuries, NBC New York reported.

The hospital provided an update on Facebook on Sunday:

A good Samaritan saw the injured dog, stopped traffic to help get her out of the road, then called police, Victor “Buddy” Amato, chief law enforcement officer for the Monmouth County SPCA, told NJ.com.

The dog has been named Tara after New Jersey State Trooper Tara Karagias, who brought her to the hospital.

“By her racing it over to the Red Bank animal hospital, they were able to control the internal bleeding,” Amato was quoted as saying. “The dog would have went into shock and died if she didn’t do that.”

Police have not yet determined if the dog was thrown or fell. However, if she fell, it's likely that her owner would have stopped and tried to help, or claimed her at the hospital.

Amato told the Morristown Daily Record there's a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call (732) 312-7153.

It's not yet clear whether this dog will be placed for adoption after she recovers. However, anyone interested in an animal companion will find one at a local shelter. To locate a shelter near you, try Petfinder, Adopt-A-Pet or the ASPCA.
