Here's How Much $100 Is Worth In Each City

$100 goes a lot further in Austin than it does in San Francisco.

A new map, created by nonprofit research organization Tax Foundation using data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, shows the real value of $100 in metropolitan areas across the country, adjusted to reflect average price levels in those places.

Earlier this week the organization released a map showing how much $100 is worth in each state. This one breaks it down on a more local level, with more expensive areas shaded orange, and cheaper areas in blue.

As you'd expect, the areas near major cities like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are a lot more expensive than the rural parts of the country. However, the most expensive city to live is actually Honolulu, Hawaii, where $100 is only worth $81.37 compared to the national average.
