This Robotic Couch Takes Laziness To A Whole New Level

It goes without saying that couch potatoes can be pretty lazy. But a bizarre new invention takes laziness to a whole new level:

Say hello to the "robocouch." Have a seat, and you'll never again have to interrupt a Netflix binge to grab some snacks from the fridge.

The prototype sofa -- a classic love seat with four wheels -- was created by nine engineering students at the University of New South Wales in Australia. The wheels are driven by electric motors, with the sofa's speed and direction controlled by an Xbox gamepad.

The team's robot project may be whimsical, but Dr. Julien Epps, an engineering professor at the university, said in a written statement that working on projects like this can bring some big benefits to students.

“Projects like this –- which have their own set of very specialized and challenging problems -– are a great way for students to hone their skills in a team before applying them to much bigger problems in industry and society when they graduate," he said, adding, “And perhaps there is an untapped market for omnidirectional robotic lounges.”

Uh, YEAH.
