Those ‘Mysterious Deadly Virus' Headlines? Don't Panic. Do Watch That Cold, And Wash Your Hands.

With reports of a respiratory illness that can require hospitalization and even intensive care affecting children across the Midwest and West, and breathless headlines like “Potentially Deadly Mystery Virus” and “Rare, potentially deadly ‘Enterovirus’ hits thousands of kids,” parents might be inclined to circle the wagons, or at the very least whip out the hand sanitizer. (One exaggerated report, which I won’t link to, read: “Enterovirus starts with wheezing and coughing, but within hours, kids stop breathing altogether.”)
