Gavin Newsom won another term as California Lieutenant Governor on Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Ron Nehring.

Newsom was first elected to the post in 2010. Previously, he served as mayor of San Francisco.

Nehring, formerly the chairman of the California Republican Party, trailed Newsom in both campaign fundraising and the polls. However, he said his broader goal in running a longshot campaign against the popular lieutenant governor was to help raise the profile of the California GOP.
