R.L. Stine Supports Amazon's Low E-Book Pricing

Bestselling children's horror author R.L. Stine told HuffPost Live on Tuesday that Amazon's goal of keeping e-book prices low is a good idea.

The battle over e-book pricing has been a source of tension between Amazon and the publisher Hachette for months. The online shopping behemoth wants to price most e-books at $9.99, arguing the discount will move more units, while the publisher claims Amazon is simply looking to make more money for itself. During a conversation with host Josh Zepps about his latest TV series "The Haunting Hour," Stine called the dispute "a shame," but he said he understands Amazon's point of view.

"I think it would be wonderful to be able to keep e-book prices down low and book prices down," he said. "A novel is $28, $30 -- for a novel? When we starting doing 'Goosebumps,' they were $4.95, four bucks, five bucks, and a kid could go in a bookstore and buy five of them."

Stine admitted that he has "a real Amazon habit" himself, and he feels the affordable prices make books more accessible to readers.

"To me, the lower the price, the more books you're going to sell," Stine said.
