Driver In Clown Mask Intentionally Hit Cyclist, Police Say

If there is still anyone out there not afraid of clowns, this should do it.

A driver wearing a clown mask is accused of intentionally striking a cyclist in what police say was a hit-and-run attack.

In a case of mistaken identity, Jeremy Anecito, 28, allegedly rammed his vehicle into the unsuspecting bicycle rider, who he thought was someone else, KION reports.

The victim, described as "a 39-year-old transient from Santa Cruz," was riding on the San Lorenzo Bridge around 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 24 when he was hit by the clown in a pickup truck.

Investigators realized the collision was an attempted homicide when witnesses told them the driver was wearing a clown mask as he drove at the bicyclist, and that he appeared to intentionally accelerate and swerve to hit him, police said.

Police later recovered a green 1995 Chevy pickup truck believed to be driven by Anecito in the incident. According to the Santa Cruz Police Blog, authorities found a clown mask in the truck.

Anecito was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide.
