As the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong continue, emotions run high.
Not all emotions are negative, however.
On Sunday, footage captured in Mong Kok shows Yau Chi Hang, 22, getting down on one knee to propose to fellow protester and girlfriend Crystal Chan, 21. In the video, featured on the Associated Press' YouTube channel, the couple is seen surrounded by a crowd that cheers after Chan says yes.
But the sweet scene comes amidst political unrest as thousands blockade the streets, demanding the right to vote for a leader in the 2017 elections.
“We hope our next generation won’t have to be occupying the streets as they’ll have true universal suffrage,” the engaged couple told reporters when asked about having children.
Authorities have given the protesters a deadline to clear the streets. Some have pulled out of talks with the government due to clashes with the police, but CNN reports a student group is willing to restart conversations if the conflict between pro-democracy protesters and those opposed is better handled.
