Cosplay: For some people, it's a hobby. For others, it's a way of life.
Karen Sakai seems to fall into the latter camp, or at least that's what her crowdfunding campaign suggests. In pursuit of greater cosplaying opportunities -- and modeling jobs -- she's looking to augment her breasts from what she calls her "average" cup size of C to a larger, yet-to-be determined size.
And she needs your money to get there.
In a video posted to YouTube, Sakai said that her breasts aren't sufficient for cosplaying, and that she has to "double up" on push-up bras in order to achieve her desired look. She claims that practice is fairly common in the cosplaying world. Fair enough, since gravity-defying anime breasts aren't exactly found in nature.
"I think that the operation will definitely help my self esteem," she says in the YouTube video. "I don't want to say it's selfish, but it's something that I want."
But Sakai, who said she's had plastic surgery before, said that she's been getting backlash for her decision to seek breast augmentation. She said she's lost fans over the campaign, and that some of her detractors have said some pretty harsh things to her.
The crowdfunding project has received negative comments from the cosplay community, with many saying that cosplayers shouldn’t resort to crowdsourcing for cosplay, and that cosplayers should use their own funds for hobbies.
Sakai's website appears to be a work in progress, but her cosplays look pretty good so far. If the Weird News team ever tried to do a Final Fantasy cosplay, it'd end in tears and lawsuits.
