Man Injured After Accidentally Driving Over His Own Head

A Colorado man is in critical condition, but expected to survive, after accidentally driving over his own head, according to reports.

The man, who has not been named, was backing his van out of his driveway in Aurora early Sunday when he dropped a lit cigarette onto his jacket, FOX31 Denver reported.

Startled, the man jumped out of the van without hitting the brake. The van, still moving, then knocked him down and the front driver-side tire rolled over his head, KUSA reported.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in critical condition. A relative in the passenger seat was not injured.

Police said they do not believe alcohol played a role in the incident.

"We remind drivers of the dangers of distractions and encourage them to eliminate distractions whenever possible, eating, cell phones, reading, smoking, excessively loud music, etc.," police said in a news release cited by The Denver Post.
