Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) defeated Republican Kevin Wade and Green Party candidate Andrew Groff in the state's U.S. Senate election Tuesday.
Coons went unchallenged in the Democratic primary. He was first elected to the Senate in 2010 in a special election against tea party favorite Christine O'Donnell.
In May, O'Donnell said she would "rather slam my hand in a car door" than challenge Coons this year.
