Democrat Mark Sullivan was defeated by Rep. Adrian Smith (R-Neb.) in the state's 3rd District Tuesday.
Sullivan is a farmer who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. He also ran against Smith in 2012.
Smith was first elected to Congress in 2010.
