What May Trigger This Reality TV Star To Drink Excessively

Todd Herzog was just 22 years old when he won Survivor: China in 2007, and he was on top of the world with his million-dollar winnings and newfound fame. But in the seven years since winning, Herzog has become an alcoholic who struggles to remain sober. With the help of Dr. Phil and his parents, Herzog entered a 90 day rehab program earlier this year. He stayed sober for 114 days before falling off the wagon.

Scared that her son was on the verge of death, Herzog’s mother reached out to Dr. Phil for help. Dr. Phil traveled to Utah to confront Herzog and bring him to Los Angeles for a life-saving intervention.

Dr. Phil gets to the heart of what triggers Herzog to drink excessively. “You really enjoy the limelight,” he says in the video above. “Then there’s the rest of your life, and the rest of your life, the silence can be kind of deafening, right?”

Dr. Phil continues, “You really don’t have much to pursue, so you get bored. That’s a trigger for you … You’ve got a lot of triggers, but you don’t have any traction. You don’t have any passion. And you’re going to have to find that.”

On his show Friday, Dr. Phil offers Herzog a second chance to get sober. Tune in to see if he accepts the offer. Check here to see where you can watch.
