'Pick Up,' Queer Short Film, Seeks Funding On Kickstarter

A poignant new film is seeking funding for an authentic and realistic portrayal about what it means to live a life with HIV.

"Pick Up" is a film from Joshua Alan Rogers that follows a young man working for Pick Up, a fictional ride-sharing app similar to Uber or Lyft. Throughout the course of his experiences working for Pick Up, this driver falls in love with one of his passengers -- and makes the decision to come out to him as HIV-positive.

"A couple years ago, a very close friend of mine asked me to dinner and came out to me as HIV positive," Rogers said in a statement. "This conversation, and the many that followed, is what inspired me to write a screenplay about a character named Jesse Ritter, a driver for Pick Up who falls in love with a passenger and has to tell him he's HIV positive."
