To Find The Best Holiday Gift For Your Partner, Stop Shopping And Start Listening

While we rejoice in the holiday spirit, it can often be stressful to find your special someone that perfect gift. But here are some tips on how to make the most thoughtful decision.

Jane Thomas, a marketing professor at Winthrop University, offered HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd three helpful ideas for figuring out what kind of gift your partner may like:

1. Ask about your partner's holiday experiences growing up
2. Spend time listening and observing what they enjoy
3. Discuss your shared experiences

Thomas said often getting the best gift requires being the best listener. She frequently advises shoppers to ask questions like: What are you interested in? Do you want a practical gift or a luxury gift? Perhaps something sillier?

"Another expectation that people have going into this has to do with the fact of listening," she said. "I tell shoppers all the time to stop shopping and to start listening more."
