Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have issued grave warnings about artificial intelligence--saying it has the potential to wipe out humanity.
But Dr. Justine Cassell, associate vice-provost for technology strategy and impact at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and an expert on computer-human interactions, has a message for those who fear some sort of robot apocalypse:
Stop worrying.
"The joke among robotics and A.I. researchers in general is if you want to avoid the robot revolution, walk into the middle of a puddle because the robot will short circuit," she told HuffPost Live on Thursday at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos. "Or...if you want to avoid the robot revolution, wait 20 minutes until it runs out of power and that will be the end of the revolution."
