9-Year-Old Girl Scout Shot While Selling Cookies

A 9-year-old Girl Scout was shot and injured in Indianapolis on Tuesday while going out to sell cookies.

Sinai Miller was leaving her apartment with a younger sister to pick up cookies and then start selling them when witnesses say a blue Ford Expedition pulled up, and someone inside the vehicle began shooting at the complex.

“I heard three gunshots and then one of them hit me in the leg,” Sinai told CBS4.

Her mother was just inside the door, putting a jacket on another little sister who was going to join them, when she heard the shots and brought the kids back inside, according to the Indianapolis Star.

That's when Sinai started crying in pain.

“She came in screaming ‘mommy mommy. It hurt. It hurt.’ And I’m like what hurt? What’s wrong?" Sinai’s mother, Shanita Miller, told CBS4. "So when I pulled her pant leg up, that’s when I discovered she was shot."

Fortunately, the bullet entered and exited her calf and missed bone and artery, the Star reported, and Sinai is now on the mend.

Police are still looking for suspects and ask that anyone with information call the local Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.

"She was just innocent," her mother's boyfriend, Mark Chandler, told Fox5. "That just don't make sense. People going to war and not getting the right person. Getting a child. I mean, it's unbelievable really, man."

Sinai hopes she can still get out to sell cookies. In addition, the Girl Scouts have set up a website to help her meet her goal. Cookies can be shipped, picked up or donated to active and retired military personnel. Learn more at this link.
