Conan Films First Late-Night Show In Cuba Since Embargo Began

Conan O'Brien made history this weekend, becoming the first host of an American late-night show to film in Cuba since the embargo began. The show will air March 4th.

Before now, the last late-night show to travel to Cuba was 'The Tonight Show' in 1959. Host Jack Paar was sharply criticized at the time for interviewing newly-empowered Fidel Castro. Though the embargo hadn't begun, U.S.-Cuba relations were extremely shaky.

According to a press release from the 'CONAN', the crew filmed in and around Havana.

"O’Brien experienced multiple days taking in the sights, sounds and culture of the country," the release said. "The trip gives the CONAN audience a rare glimpse into the daily life of a country not often seen by American viewers."

In December, President Obama announced that the U.S. would pursue normalized relations with Cuba. The two countries are currently engaged in talks to ease travel and economic restrictions.
