While other NBA players will focus solely on the playoffs in just a few weeks, Damian Lillard has something else on his mind too: college graduation.
The Trailblazers point guard told reporters in a video posted Wednesday that he finished his final college requirements last summer and will earn his degree in technical sales from Utah's Weber State University this spring.
"I'm very proud of it," Lillard said. "That was something that I told my mother I was going to do. When I got there I didn't know I was going to be an NBA player."
Lillard, who was just six credits shy of graduating when he was drafted in 2012, said he figured out a plan following his rookie season (when he was also named Rookie of the Year) and finished last summer ahead of training camp.
"I had to take some tests and test out of some classes. I was kind of nervous because I hadn't been in school for so long," Lillard said, adding that he "knocked all of it out and finally got done."
The school said "barring any post season conflicts," Lillard will receive his diploma on May 1. All in a day's work.
