Hospital Sends Miscarried Fetuses Out With Laundry

The employees of a Las Vegas area laundry service were shocked Tuesday morning when they discovered two miscarried fetuses in a shipment of linen.

The fetuses, which were estimated to be 16 weeks old, were mixed in with laundry from the Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Employees for the Angelica Corporation, a linen management service for hospitals, called officers around 10 a.m.

Investigators for the Henderson Police Dept. said the incident was not considered suspicious, but that the Clark County Coroner's Office would investigate further, according to Reuters.

Hospital spokeswoman Gretchen Papez said the mother of the fetuses arrived at the hospital after suffering a miscarriage at another location, according to KVVU TV.

"After suffering a miscarriage at another location, the patient arrived via EMS with twins -- early gestational, deceased fetuses," Papez said. "The fetuses had already been wrapped in linen prior to arrival at the hospital. We are currently reviewing the situation to determine what occurred. However, the remains are currently in the hospital's possession, and we are working with the family at this time."
