Chris Matthews Says He Will Be 'Transparent And Fair' If Wife Kathleen Runs For Congress

Chris Matthews assured viewers on Thursday that he would continue to remain balanced despite wife Kathleen Matthews' plans to run for Congress.

"It's important in my position here for me to be as transparent as possible," he said on "Hardball."

Kathleen Matthews, executive vice president of Marriott International and former WJLA-ABC7 anchor, is taking a "serious look" at running for Rep. Chris Van Hollen's (D-Md.) open seat in the upcoming election, the MSNBC host confirmed. Van Hollen announced Wednesday that he would be running for U.S. Senate in 2016.

"I am proud of her and support her," Matthews continued. "And if she does indeed decide to run for Congress, then we will make sure we continue to fully disclose my relationship -- which I've never denied, with her -- as part of our commitment here at MSNBC to be transparent and fair in our coverage."
