En lugar de gastar su dinero en una elaborada boda, esta pareja de Los Angeles decidió comenzar su vida juntos viajando alrededor del mundo, celebrando 38 bodas en el camino.
Por menos de $3,000 por persona, Cheetah Platt, de 30 años, y Rhian Woodyard, de 32 –ambos acróbatas–, planearon un impresionante itinerario que incluye visitar 11 países en 83 días.

"Vivimos en California, que es un estado muy costoso", le dijo Platt a The Huffington Post, explicando cómo pasaron de la idea de una ceremonia tradicional a lo que han llamado una "boda mundial". "¿Y las bodas? Oh, cuestan mucho dinero. No queríamos gastar mucho dinero en un solo día".
Angustiados por todos los detalles de una boda, se dieron cuenta después de "mucha, mucha planificación y preparación" que en línea ambos podían ‘ordenarse’ como oficiales de bodas y casarse ellos mismos, gratis, alrededor de todo el mundo. "No solo esto es posible", dijo Platt, "pero por extraño que parezca –es más asequible".
"Realmente quiero que la gente sepa que esta boda, tres meses alrededor del mundo con increíbles aventuras… es más económico que ofrecer una buena –ni siquiera un ‘excelente’, mucho menos ‘épica’–, simplemente una buena boda en California durante un día".
Dado el alcance de esta aventura, sin duda los dos viajaron a menudo antes de esto, ¿o no?
"No", dice Platt. "Absolutamente no".
Mientras que el trabajo de Platt lo ha llevado a destinos internacionales, y él se considera a sí mismo como un hombre viajado, Woodyard dice que ella es "el completo opuesto".
"He estado en tres estados", dice entre risas. "Nunca antes había viajado, así que otra cosa que nos inspiró para esta boda fue el hecho de que al mismo tiempo Cheetah podría darme esta increíble experiencia, y que podríamos aprender el uno el otro".

Para Platt, dos momentos destacados han sido casarse frente a las pirámides en Guiza, y ver a un guepardo o cheetah (su tocayo) en la sabana en África. El momento más memorable para Woodyard hasta ahora ha sido explorar el templo Ellora y las cuevas de Ajanta en India. Cuando se realizó esta entrevista para HuffPost, la pareja acababa de llegar a Tailandia, con mucho todavía por ver.
Ambos enfatizan que la flexibilidad que existe sobre los lugares a los que quieren ir, y en qué momento hacerlo, les ha ahorrado mucho dinero en su travesía mundial, que comenzó en Bogotá, Colombia, a principios de febrero.
"Realmente elegimos todo con base en el costo, porque todo iba a ser maravilloso", dijo Woodyard. "No importaba mucho a dónde fuéramos –importaba que fuéramos".
Cuando finalmente regresen a casa, les quedará pendiente una última ceremonia (para formalizar el lazo legal), con sus familias y mejores amigos. "Eso es enorme", dice Platt, "es muy importante".
Para la luna de miel (recuerda: este viaje es su boda), la pareja dice no tener planes aún, pero podría ser cualquier cosa, desde un viaje de fin de semana al norte de California hasta tres meses de aventura internacional.
