Football Player Stages A Fire Drill In Heartwarming Promposal For His Friend With Special Needs

Football Player's Promposal For His Friend With Special Needs Will Warm Your Heart

When high school sophomore Tiffany Gay exited her school during a fire drill, she never expected a sweet promposal to be waiting for her.

KENS5 reports that Luis Velasquez Jr., a junior and football player at Natalia High School in Texas, got permission from his principal to stage a fire drill so he could ask Tiffany to prom. Tiffany has a rare genetic disorder called Prader-Willi syndrome. According to ABC News, she battles scoliosis and diabetes, two conditions associated with the disorder. She also happens to be an important part of Luis’ life.

The motivation behind Luis' grand gesture comes from his special relationship with Tiffany. He told KENS5 he wants to thank her for all she’s done for him, including making him cookies for every holiday and the two times he had knee surgery.

"I want to take her to the prom so she can know I'm grateful for everything she does for me," he said.

Luis popped the big question in front of their fellow students. He gave her roses while Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are” played in the background. Overwhelmed by the attention, Tiffany became emotional. That’s when Luis kindly grabbed her hand and led her to classmates holding signs that spelled out "prom" with a question mark. Tiffany happily accepted.

"He's a regular boy with a kind heart," she said.

Luis had the promposal recorded so his mom could see it and didn’t expect much when it was posted on Facebook. The video has almost 6 million views to date. A GoFundMe page has also been created to help Tiffany have a picture-perfect prom. According to ABC News, any funds that don’t go toward the big night will go to her family to help pay for medical expenses and her upcoming surgery. So far, the campaign has raised $7,828, exceeding its original $1,000 goal.
