Europe's summer festival season kicked off at the turn of the month with Barcelona's famed Primavera Sound Festival, which gathers over 40,000 attendees from across the globe to its seaside festival grounds. With the festival's three main "days" running from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. -- gotta get that siesta in -- bikini tops and booty shorts were few and far between. Concertgoers instead opted for a subdued style that was as definitively post-punk as the lineup itself.
The summer sun called for Ray Bans all around, but the night's cool Mediterranean breeze also brought out the leather jackets and denim on girls and guys alike. Most notable was the proliferation of printed trousers and leggings, from sheer patterned tights a la American Apparel to vintage checkered parachute pants. Striking color blocking on flowy mid-length dresses also caught our eye, often complemented by a worn leather purse or backpack.
And while no festival is complete without some face paint and headdresses, scraggly hippie hair was nowhere to be seen. Primavera style was nothing if not a display of striking coifs, with thick bangs and bold dyes for the ladies and close-cropped 'dos for the dudes that were equal parts business and bite.
