Shooting The Old L.A. Zoo With DJ Babu

Recently, he and I met at the Old L.A. Zoo. If you haven't been there before, it's worth noting that it's somewhat hidden. A lot of Los Angeles residents don't even know that it's in existence, but it's also not that big of a secret. I mean, it's even been in a few movies. Check Anchorman for an example of that.

DJ Babu may best be known for his work as a deejay and as a producer. He's part of the legendary Beat Junkies collective and a member of the iconic Dilated Peoples crew. But over the last couple of years, I've also come to know a different side of him.

Beyond his revered work in the music world, DJ Babu is also a great photographer.

Despite the fact that people can stumble upon this old zoo on a hike, there's still a certain mystique about it. It still looks like the abandoned zoo you'd hope to find, rusty cages all around, graffiti at every turn.
