As an arbiter of modern Southern style, it's been a delight to see which of the current style statements revealed themselves at the DNC here in Charlotte, the heart of the New South. Wow, what a kick! The fashion spectrum went from unforgettable fearless fashion, which is the domain of avant-garde risk takers and accessory junkies, to the shrinking violets that just prefer to blend in with a more reserved fashion persona. And, of course, there were those that took the undeniable safety of the middle ground -- choosing one simple element of self-expression -- a bold colored shoe or an amped up multi-strand necklace.
Despite the torrential rains, fashion took Charlotte by storm. For me, the fizz and the fireworks were the mish-mash of extraordinary prints and patterns on the streets and at the arena. Bright and beautiful took center stage as the parties started. From power flowers and tribal prints to checks and whimsical conversationals, the message was modern yet free spirited.
And what would a trip to our glorious South be without an in-your-face display of courageous color? Definitely not just your standard patriotic red, white and blue! Visitors from around the world as well as dignitaries who graced the stage looked super glam and added high wattage wow in shades of pink, purple and orange. Color clashing in a good way!
