Barry L. Zaret, MD

Dr. Zaret received a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from Queens College and his M.D. with highest honors from New York University School of Medicine. Further medical training involved internal medicine internship and residency at Bellevue Hospital, New York, and cardiology training at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore. He has been on the faculty of Yale University School of Medicine since 1973 and served as chief of cardiology for 27 years. Currently he is the Robert W. Berliner Emeritus Professor of Medicine, Professor of Diagnostic Radiology and Senior Research Scientist at Yale where he continues to care for patients, teach, write and mentor. He is recognized internationally for his pioneer research in the development of nuclear cardiology. He has written or edited 5 medical texts, one of which is in its fourth edition, as well as several hundred scientific papers and book chapters. He was the founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology. He has received many awards for his scientific work and is a member of many honorific societies. He has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” since the inception of the publication in 1996.
Dr. Zaret’s first volume of poetry was published in 2012. In addition, he is an accomplished painter whose landscape oils appear in numerous private collections. His work has been exhibited in solo as well as group shows in the New England region. He lives in Woodbridge, Connecticut and East Otis, Massachusetts. He is the father of 3 and grandfather of
