Beth Burkstrand-Reid

Law professor, University of Nebraska

Professor Burkstrand-Reid joined the University of Nebraska College of Law faculty in 2010. Her research focuses on reproductive rights and women's health. She also researches the changing roles of fathers in the American family and how those changes impact the development of work-family balance law.

Professor Burkstrand-Reid was formerly a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law, where she taught Sex-Based Discrimination Law, Legal Writing and Introduction to Advocacy. Prior to her time at Illinois, she taught Family Law and Sex-Based Discrimination Law as an adjunct faculty member at the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C.

Professor Burkstrand-Reid has a diverse practice background. She is a former associate with the Washington, D.C. office of Crowell & Moring LLP, where she had a broad-based litigation, counseling and pro bono practice that included torts, consumer products, First Amendment and terrorism-related matters, among others. She also served as a fellow in the Women's Law and Public Policy Fellowship Program at the Georgetown University Law Center, during which time her work focused on women's health and reproductive rights.

She received her J.D., summa cum laude, from American University and her B.A. in political science from Emory University. Upon graduation from law school, Professor Burkstrand-Reid was a pro se law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division.

Prior to her legal career, Professor Burkstrand-Reid was a journalist. Her writing has appeared in several newspapers, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.
