Betsy Taylor is a cultural anthropologist who has worked with many action projects for community-driven, sustainable development in Appalachia and South Asia–with a particular concern for regions directly affected by coal and other extractive industries. She is co-author (with Herbert Reid) of Recovering the Commons: Democracy, Place, and Global Justice (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 2010). She writes about environmental and social justice movements, democratic planning & participatory research, the commons, democratic reclamation of academe / professions. She is Executive Director of the Livelihoods Knowledge Exchange Network http://www.likenknowledge.org/.
