Collector of recorded sound
Bob Purse is a collector of recorded sound, with a collection
numbering in the neighborhood of 10,000 pieces, some which are over
100 years old, and many from the fringes of the recording industry,
such as a large collection of song-poem records. His particular
interest is in the material -- both the ephemeral and those things
intended for posterity -- found on privately recorded reel to reel
tapes, primarily from the late 1940's through the late 1960's. A
married father of two adult daughters, he has a MA in psychology from
Roosevelt University, and has worked for nearly 30 years with
young people, primarily in the mental health field.
