Elected leader, or cacique, of the Embera-Wounaan General Congress
Cándido Mézua is the elected leader, or cacique, of the Embera-Wounaan General Congress, which includes some 10,000 indigenous peoples living in 41 communities in the forests of Darién in Panama. He is also president of COONAPIP, an alliance of indigenous leaders in Panama.
