President, Birmingham-Southern College
Gen. Charles C. Krulak, retired commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and former member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, became 13th president of Birmingham-Southern College, a private liberal arts college in Birmingham, Ala., in 2011. As the senior leader of the USMC, he was responsible for recruiting, training, operational readiness, and welfare of more than 220,000 active and reserve forces and 20,000 civilian employees. After retiring from the USMC in 1999, he was named chairman and CEO of MBNA Europe. Gen. Krulak was born in Quantico, Va., attended Philips Exeter Academy, and received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and his master’s in labor relations from George Washington University.
