Known by a generation of television viewers as Mrs. Garrett, Charlotte Rae's career as an entertainer began more than sixty years in the cabaret night clubs of New York City where she sang and did stand-up. She appeared on many shows in the early days of television, including The Ed Sullivan Show, the Phil Silvers Show, and Car 54 Where Are You on which she created the legendary Silvia Schnauzer and played opposite Al Lewis. Her television work has spanned the last six decades, all the way up to a recent appearance on Pretty Little Liars. She began her Broadway career creating the role of Mammy Yokum in Li'l Abner. Her critically acclaimed work on the musical and legitimate stage has earned her two Tony Award nominations. Her album, Songs I Taught My Mother was recently reissued. A pancreatic cancer survivor, she has lobbied for more government funded cancer research. She is mother of two and grandmother of three and is currently working on her memoirs.
