CEO and Co-founder, Conservation X Labs

Alex Dehgan, former Chief Scientist at USAID, leads Conservation X Labs (CXL), a conservation innovation startup that seeks to create a different model for conservation. At its core, CXL focuses on developing innovations that improve the scale and sustainability of global conservation efforts with the aim of ending human-induced extinction. It harnesses new disruptive breakthroughs in technology, behavior change, and financial incentives to power open and collaborative problem-solving and entrepreneurship. CXL addresses three fundamental problems in conservation: engineering resilience against environmental change, developing replacement products and changing demand, and improving our understanding of species threats and biology through modern technology. CXL’s goal is to create the platforms that empower the larger conservation community and scale open source conservation technology tools being developed by a new “tribe” of conservation visionaries, solvers, and doers.
