Since 1975 Dan Grinstead has been a social worker at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. In March of 2009 at the age of 58 he was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the Iowa Army National Guard. From November 2010 to July 2011 Captain Grinstead deployed to Afghanistan where he served as a behavioral health officer. Now home, Captain Grinstead continues to work at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on an inpatient adult psychiatry unit.
