Damian Murphy

Senior Program Manager, Freedom House

Damian Murphy has more than ten years of experience in democracy and governance working on four continents as an analyst, program director, policy advocate, researcher, and political party trainer. He has written extensively on politics in Middle East, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe and Asia. He currently manages the Freedom House portfolio in South Asia and Europe and conducts the organization’s advocacy efforts in the U.S. Congress. Prior to Freedom House, Damian was the National Field Director for the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign, a coalition of businesses and NGOs that advocate on behalf of the funding for international affairs. He worked at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) on democratic development projects related to elections and political parties in the West Bank and Gaza, Serbia, Ethiopia, the Philippines and Albania. Previous to his time at NDI, Mr. Murphy worked on parliamentary and judicial development programs for the Center for Democracy. Domestically, Mr. Murphy was a Get-Out-the-Vote Deputy Director in Pennsylvania for the Obama campaign in 2008 and was a Regional Field Director for the John Kerry presidential campaign in Ohio in 2004. He worked on press and voter contact programs for the Chuck Robb for Senate (2000) and Bill Bradley for President campaigns. Damian has a degree in World Politics from the Catholic University of America and a Masters degree in International Security from Georgetown University.
