Denise Bostrom

Denise Bostrom wrote her first documentary film on contemporary jazz musicians during her senior year at Bennington College. The show aired on WNET-TV and was shown nationally on PBS. She has since written documentaries, corporate films, educational films & web casts for 20 years, garnering awards from major festivals (American Film Festival, Women in the Director’s Chair, Nyons, and Toronto, Berlin and New York Film Festivals) as well as industry awards (Joey, Golden Cine). She’s also worked on feature films as a script-doctor & supervisor with renowned directors including Chris Columbus, Wes Craven, George Lucas and Wayne Wang. She works with local and national companies as a producer and screenwriter, and teaches screenwriting at San Francisco State University and the University Project at San Quentin State Prison. Her essays and critical writing have been published in Salon, San Francisco Chronicle and CineSource Magazine. She earned her MFA at New College, where she developed her novel, Perfect, with department chair and Lannan recipient, Edie Meidav. In addition, noted authors, Martin Smith and Ron Carlson, critiqued her entire novel at the Squaw Valley Writers’ Residency in ’07 and ’10. Denise has been invited to read selections from Perfect at the Oakland reading series, East Bay on the Brain. She lives in Oakland with her husband and cat, and enjoys catching her sons’ indie band, Man in Space, when they tour the West Coast.
