David Helfenbein is a strategic communication and branding expert focused on crisis communication, public affairs, and government relations. He is currently a Senior Vice President at Main & Rose Strategic Branding, where he is the head of the New York office. Under President Obama, David was appointed Social Media Coordinator for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Special Assistant to the Secretary in the Office of White House Liaison, both at the U.S. Department of State, where he helped to rebrand the State Department’s web and social presence. Before the State Department, he worked on Clinton’s Senate staff, at The Brookings Institution and at MSNBC’s Morning Joe. David’s background in public relations and communications includes working for Ruder Finn, DKC, and SS+K and for clients such as PBS, FreshDirect, Columbia University, Esquire, AARP Bulletin, and more. David speaks frequently on how the media and technology are shaping the future and the relationship between public figures and the media. He has spoken at The Pacific Council on International Policy, the University of Pennsylvania and previously hosted The Gaggle Podcast. David holds a B.A. from The University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Washington University School of Law.
