Dr. David Herzog

Dr. David Herzog, Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, is a distinguished clinician, researcher, and advocate. His clinical work and scientific research have focused on eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Dr. Herzog founded and directed the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Eating Disorders Clinic, the Harvard Eating Disorders Center, and the Harris Center for Education and Advocacy in Eating Disorders at MGH. He also founded the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy & Action in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Herzog was the first Endowed Professor of Psychiatry in the Field of Eating Disorders at Harvard Medical School. He is the Principal Investigator of the MGH Longitudinal Study of Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa, a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-funded naturalistic longitudinal study of 246 women with anorexia and bulimia nervosa. This study, which maps the course and outcome of eating disorders over 25 years, is the largest and longest study of its kind. Dr. Herzog has authored nearly 300 peer-reviewed journals, chapters, and books.
