Eliécer Ávila

Founder of SOMOS+, member of Cuban Civil Society Open Forum

Eliécer Ávila studied information technology at the University of Computer Sciences (UCI) in Cuba. In 2008 he publicly confronted Ricardo Alarcón, then president of the Cuban National Assembly, during a conference at UCI. Since then, he has been a more vocal and active member of civil society in Cuba. In 2014, Eliécer founded SOMOS +, a youth movement dedicated to inciting youth to help a better future for Cuba. He is also a member of Cuban Civil Society Open Forum.
