Eva Illouz

Eva Illouz was born in Fez, Morocco and educated in France, Israel and the United States. She has taught in France, Germany and the US, including a visiting professorship at Princeton and is now Professor of Sociology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Her list of prize-winning publications includes Consuming the Romantic Utopia, Oprah Winfrey and the Glamour of Misery. Cold Intimacies: The Making of Emotional Capitalism, was the 2004 Adorno Lectures delivered in Frankfurt.

In 2009, the German newspaper Die Zeit included her in a list of the twelve thinkers most likely to shape the thought of tomorrow. Another magazine hailed her as a great public intellectual of the future.

Why Love Hurts was hailed by the Los Angeles Review of Books as “an important book … full of arresting ideas about love in our time” and by the Times Higher Education Supplement (UK) as a “bold, thought-provoking book”.
