Evelyn Leopold

Veteran UN correspondent

Evelyn Leopold, an independent journalist and a contributor to the Huffington Post, is based at the United Nations as a resident correspondent. She was UN bureau chief for Reuters for 17 years. She is chair of the Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists, was awarded a gold medal in 2000 by the UN Correspondents Association, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Newswomen’s Club of New York and was on the Board of the Overseas Press Club. She spent most of her journalistic career as an editor and reporter for Reuters. During her years at Reuters she was a news editor for North America, the editor for the company’s Africa region, based in Nairobi, and Associate Editor worldwide. She also was a reporter in London and in Bonn, Germany, as well as in New York and in Washington. She is co-author of a book on the former East Germany.
