Gabriela Salinas

Research Technologist, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

In 1996 Gabriela Salinas left her home country of Bolivia at age 7 for treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for Ewing sarcoma, which are small, round cell tumors that arise in either bone or soft tissues.

Her treatment included chemotherapy and radiation. She also underwent painful physical therapy because her tumor pressed on her spine and she was unable to walk. However, Salinas wouldn’t quit. She wanted to walk again, unassisted by a walker or crutches, and through hard work and determination, she did. She finished her treatment in 2007.

Salinas recently graduated from college with a degree in biochemistry and now works as a research technologist in the Department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics at St. Jude.
